Shelby kidnaps her niece and nephew to shield them from their father after overhearing a disturbing phone call suggesting harm to "Stacy's brats" and suspecting he killed his wife. Assigned to investigate the kidnapping by RAPTOR, Diego discovers the father's shady dealings and joins forces with Shelby to protect the children and uncover the truth behind their mother's death. As they delve deeper, they find themselves entangled in a dangerous web of secrets and deception.

I love the many different conflicts in this story that provide depth of to the characters.  Shelby is conflicted about kidnapping to protect her niece and nephew, Diego has his conflicts with PTSD, and he is also conflicted about his duty to the client that called RAPTOR about his kidnapped children and the feelings that something is not right.  The pace of the story is steady and does not feel rushed.  There is definitely some great spice as well. 

If I were to give one criticism, I would say that even with the wounded status of all the RAPTOR employees, they all seem too perfect and overly helpful. 

Overall, this book is a great read and I immediately picked up book two in the series.
